FC Spartak goalkeeper Artem Rebrov turned to the head of the club’s security service Maxim Shumilov after a call from the bank that he had a credit card in his name. Rebrov himself claims that he has never applied to this bank.
“We recorded a fraud attempt using a high-quality duplicate of Artyom Rebrov’s passport, the details of which correspond to the real document. A fraudster using a fake passport with a photo pasted tried to issue and activate a Tinkoff Black debit card, but did not manage to use it", - bank representatives said.
The mere fact of issuing a debit card on behalf of another person will not constitute a corpus delicti. By issuing a debit card, the bank does not place money on it, that is, the attacker does not steal money from the bank (in contrast to the case of issuing a credit card). The athlete himself is not automatically inflicted any damage either.
Rather, it can be considered as preparation for the commission of another crime, for example, the same fraud. The card number could be used in some calculations, reported for the transfer of funds. An attacker could later impersonate Artem Rebrov, including using map data.
At the same time, criminal liability arises for preparing only for grave and especially grave crimes. Accordingly, it is necessary to clarify the goals and the motive for issuing a debit card in the name of a famous athlete.
Currently, the Moscow police are figuring out all the circumstances of the incident.
